Latin American Academy of Musical Arts and Sciences has awarded the Spanish tenor Placido Domingo, the title of "Man of the Year," according to Associated Press. Honoree will be awarded 69-year old singer at a ceremony in Las Vegas on November 10, the eve of distribution of Latin American Grammys.
As stated by representatives of the Academy, this award they wanted to mention professional and philanthropic achievements Domingo. Also the title of "Man of the Year were honored Gloria Estefan, Julio Iglesias, Ricky Martin and Carlos Santana.
His career began Placido Domingo in 1968 in New York's Metropolitan Opera, where he sang for 21 seasons. After he toured around the world in the "Three Tenors" with Luciano Pavarotti and Jose Carreras. Domingo is also known as the founder of Opera Singers Competition "Operalia". In addition, the tenor organizing charity concerts to help the earthquake victims in Mexico and Hurricane Katrina in the U.S..
In spring 2010, Placido Domingo had surgery to remove a malignant tumor intestine, but after a few weeks back on stage, performing in "La Scala".
